The Shikshak EduTech mobile app — video-based learning and AI-personalized study for university students

Client overview.

The Shikshak is an honest attempt to provide quality education at affordable rates. The platform bundles pre-recorded academic series from multiple universities into a single mobile app, so students can study at their convenience — on any device, in any language they think in.

Tagline: “Study at your convenience.”

The challenge.

University students were stuck between three bad options: expensive tuition, dense pre-recorded content with no personalization, or scattered free videos with no structure or accountability.

The brief: build one student-first platform that delivers structured concept-driven learning, lets professors stay close to students through doubt-clearing webinars, and works on the same low-bandwidth phones that students actually carry.

Research findings.

We interviewed students across Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities. Four pain points surfaced repeatedly:

01

Expensive tuition

Coaching fees crowd out students who can’t justify the spend — especially in regional universities.

02

No personalization

Pre-recorded series treat every learner the same. Fast learners are bored; slow learners drop off.

03

Language friction

English-only content keeps regional-language students from absorbing core concepts.

04

No doubt support

Once the video ends, the student is alone. Doubts pile up; concepts stay shaky.

05

Bandwidth gaps

Patchy 4G makes streaming long lectures unreliable, especially in the evenings.

06

Lost progress

Switching devices loses where the student left off — the lecture restarts every time.

Project goals.

Three north-star goals shaped every design and engineering decision:

Goal 01

Affordable quality

Deliver university-grade lectures at a fraction of the tuition cost — no compromise on production or pedagogy.

Goal 02

Personalized pace

Use AI to adapt the learning path to each student’s capability — speed up the fast, slow down for the rest.

Goal 03

Concept > cramming

Pair recorded lectures with live doubt-clearing webinars from trained professors. Reduce friction; raise outcomes.

User flow.

Five steps from app open to concept mastered — designed so the student never gets stuck.

UX direction

KISS — Keep It Simple, Student.

A first-time learner should not need a tutorial to find a lecture. Bottom-tab navigation, one-tap resume, large-thumb hit-areas, and visible progress at every step. Search, filter, and download stay one tap apart — no nested menus.

UI direction

A component-based design system.

Calm palette, generous typography, illustration-led empty states. Every screen reuses the same tokens — cards, chips, sheets — so engineering ships fast and the brand stays consistent across web, Android, and iOS.

Execution — features.

The shipped app turns “watch a lecture” into a full study session.

Pre-recorded lectures

Full academic series from multiple universities, edited tightly with regional-language voice-over.

AI-personalized path

Adapts pace, suggests revision clips, and surfaces weak topics based on watch + quiz behavior.

Offline download

Save lectures, watch without data. Resumes across devices when re-connected.

Easy search

Find a concept, professor, or chapter in one query — with smart suggestions.

Tag & favourite

Bookmark exact lecture sections, mark favourites, build a personal revision shelf.

Doubt-clearing webinars

Live sessions with professors. Comment threads under every lecture for async follow-ups.

Progress tracking

Resume where you left off. See chapter-wise completion. Streaks for the daily-study crowd.

Playback control

Variable speed (0.5x — 2x), pinch-zoom on diagrams, captions in regional languages.

Concept power

Every lecture pairs theory with a practical example — how the concept shows up in real exams.

Students praise the comprehensive syllabus coverage, edited video quality, and clear concept explanations. Professors get to do what they do best — teach — while the platform handles distribution, tracking, and doubt routing.

What students say.

“The syllabus coverage is full. The editing is sharp, and the way concepts are explained with practical examples — it’s what got me through my exams. The Shikshak feels like having a tutor in my pocket.”
